Celebrate National Dairy Month the Italian Way!

June is officially dairy month, and we can't think of any better way to enjoy it, than by kicking back with a huge plate of cheese pasta at the best restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks! Dairy includes so many wonderful products that make our mouth water, cheese, milk, ice cream, whipped cream, Alfredo sauce, and more. If you're ready to learn about some tasty ways to enjoy dairy month, we're ready to show you!

National Dairy Month

This month-long celebration started out as National Milk Month in 1937, and it was a way that drinking milk was promoted. This holiday was planned to help stabilize the dairy demand when the production was at a peak, but now this annual celebration helps the entire dairy industry decided to make it a whole month dedicated to dairy in general.

National Dairy Month celebrates all of the wonderful things dairy brings to the table, from calcium, potassium, as well as nine essential nutrients to help manage your weight, reduce your risk for high blood pressure, osteoporosis and more. The protein in it can help build and repair muscle tissue and the vitamin A helps maintain healthy skin.

Fun Facts About Dairy Products

  • In 1856, the French scientist, Louis Pasteur, discovered that heating liquids to high temperatures can kill bacteria. This is called pasteurization, and it protects the purity and flavors of milk.
  • The Federal Government's Food Pyramid recommends that children between the ages of 9-18 need 3 servings of dairy products daily, and only 30% of boys and 12% of girls meet this suggestion.
  • Milk remains fresh for 7-10 days after the expirations date if refrigerated at 35-40° F. Each 5°F rise in temperature shortens milk’s shelf life by 50% because of the bacteria growth that happens.
