Pasta and Wine Were Meant For Each Other

There are two things that make a great combo. Those two things are pasta and wine. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a delicious and hearty warm plate of pasta that pairs well with a glass of wine. While we might be a little biased towards this situation, we think most people would agree. Li’l Rizzo’s knows that when selecting the perfect wine for your pasta, you need to look at the pasta sauce. Check out a few of our favorite wine and pasta pairings that you can find at the best Italian restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Tomato-Based Pasta

Tomato-based pasta dishes, such as our spaghetti or linguini marinara, are best with medium-bodied red wines like a Zinfandel, which can be enjoyed at our Lake Ozark location, or even a Merlot. These sauces are powerful, are highly acidic and are often blended with rich, red meats, so middleweight body is the best option, as it won't overpower the dish.

Cheesy Pasta

It's hard to find a wine that doesn't pair well with cheese. While you could say most wines pair well, full-bodied white and light-bodied red wines typically go best with pasta dishes that feature cheese. Dishes such as our lasagna and baked mostaccioli. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are two options that will really enhance the flavor of our dishes.

Seafood Pasta

Seafood pasta is the best of both worlds. You get to enjoy delicious seafood and some amazing pasta. If you're interested in one of our seafood pastas, such as our fettuccine with shrimp or shrimp scampi, you’ll want to look for a light or medium-bodied white wine. Our house Pinot Grigio is a popular choice for those who order our seafood pasta.

Creamy Pasta

Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay pair very nicely with creamy pastas, such as fettuccine Alfredo. However, make sure the Chardonnay hasn't been aged in oak, as an overly oaky Chardonnay and creamy pasta dishes don't mix very well. Pinot Grigio contains a decent amount of acid, which can stand up to the savory characteristics of an Alfredo sauce without losing its refreshing flavor.
