Before wedding season truly takes off, here are a few foods that are traditionally featured at an Italian wedding, along with a few featured dishes off our own menu that will make your mouth water.
Antipasti (Appetizers)
Antipasti in Italian means appetizers and antipasto means starter. This is the first dish that is served and it can be either a single course or a mix of different foods. Depending on the season the appetizers could include bruschetta, mushrooms, shrimp cocktail, ham and melon, smoked salmon or grilled seafood. When you have your wedding catered by the best Italian restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, we have several delicious appetizers to choose from including toasted ravioli, wings, garlic toast, spinach, green chili & jalapeno dip and meatballs.
Primo Piatto (First Course)
The first course of the wedding dinner is also known as the pasta course. It usually consists of some sort of pasta, whether it be spaghetti, lasagne, penne, linguine, gnocchi or ravioli. An Italian wedding traditionally consists of several courses and this is the one right before the main course. Occasionally, salads will be served during this course as well. At Li'l Rizzo's, a favorite pasta dish is the Tortellini Alfredo, which is a delicious mixture of bacon, peas and mushrooms in our thick cream sauce. This delicious course will sure to be a hit with your guests!
Secondo Piatto (Main Couse)
The main course can consist of fish or meat, such as beef, pork, lamb or guinea fowl. Many Mediterranean countries cannot celebrate an event without including meat as part of the menu. Generally a meat dish will also be served with a side of seasonal vegetables whether they are fried, baked or grilled. We have a delicious Beef Soto that will delight all of your guests!
Dolce (Dessert)
No celebrate would be complete without dessert! Common desserts in Italy include sorbet, tiramisu and a fresh fruit cake. Our catering menu actually features a tiramisu that will be the perfect way to compliment your festivities.
Vino e Liquori (Wine and Digestives)
An Italian wedding wouldn't be complete without good quality wine, whether it's red or wine. Sometimes coffee comes during this round as well. We have a beautiful selection of house wines, white wines and red wines.
Italians know how to enjoy a good meal! Of course, an Italian wedding wouldn't be truly Italian without good food - and lot's of it. Just because you won't be getting married in Italy, it doesn't mean you have to sacrifice on the food.
